I'm having a fantastic Christmas. I have had a good time at home. But it will be good to get back to University next week. I haven't decided what day I'm going back yet. It will either be the 3rd or 5th Jan. I have been driving my Dad's car loads and I have got used to the steering and the clutch. Still, I haven't been trusted to drive it alone. I have been sales shopping day. The queues in Birmingham where a nightmare.
There are only two more days until Christmas. In one more day most of my family will be here. I love Christmas time. All my Christmas shopping and present wrapping is finished. Today I have been insured on my Dads car. I will only be able to drive it when I'm home from Uni, but some practice is better then no practice. I drove the car into town this afternoon. No problems. Its going to take a little while for me to get used to the car, I have been spoiled from learning to drive in an A Class. My Dad's car feels really heavy to drive without any power steering. Ekk. I have my driving practical test on Thursday. I really hope I pass first time. I had a driving lesson yesterday for two hours. Considering I haven't been behind the wheel of a car for over 6 weeks I was really impressed with myself. I drove fantastic like I had never been away from driving a car. My instructor said if I drive like that on Thursday I should have no problems passing. I just need to keep calm and I should get past it no problem. I have a driving lesson tomorrow a "mock test". Should be interesting to see how that goes. (posted 6:50 PM) |

Saturday night I had a really good time. My mates and me went to the Students Union where UK uncovered was filming. We had some Go, Go dancers on the stage all night and they where pretty good. When the camera crew came on the stage everyone went mad, screaming and jumping about for the cameras. I had a good dance and drank a fair bit. On the way back I stopped at the chippy and I had some chips and doner meat.
On Saturday most of my flatmates went home. Minus one, but she was working anyway so I was all on my own. I packed, cooked a spaghetti bolognaise from scratch and surfed the net for a bit.
Today work was basically mad. Dad picked me up and here I am back home. I’m on Christmas hols for three weeks. One things for sure I’ll miss university, although its good to be home for a bit.
I have finished all of my coursework. I'm totally free for Christmas although I will take a couple of Nursing practice text books home to readup on before I start my placement. Yesterday between 9am and 1pm I had a clinical skills session on Manual Handling Practice. It was a really good lecture. I were shown how to use sliding sheets, bed blocks, rope ladders, and manual handling belts in order to sit up patients [In this case fellow students] or help them stand up.
I have learnt that 10 nurses will leave the NHS every day due to back injury. It is insane, Nurses damage there back because they handle patients incorrectly. If the right equipment was always available on hospital wards then the incidence would be reduced. A manual handling belt costs round about £30.00, where as back injury compensation can easily reach £70,000.00! (posted 8:25 PM) |

Last night was the Christmas due for the Child health nursing students. There was a fairly good turn out but not everyone made an appearance. We started off at a basement pub near the Belgrade theatre, it was so cold last night I didn't take notice of the name, I was just glad to get into the warmth. Straight from there we went to Jumpin Jacks at the Skydome. 'jacks' is a really fun place, they have live music and dancing of recent songs and Rock 'n' Roll. Its a good name for the place because it really is 'jumpin'. The only bad thing was my group has this really weird drunk bloke hanging round. We basically danced in a tight circle so he couldn't brake in, however after being annoyed by him for some time I turned round and said, "Hey, Get Lost" and he did. (posted 7:49 PM) |

This weekend has been pretty good so far. I went to the Students union on Friday night and stayed until close at 2am, got some chips on the way back and went to bed. Had a nice sleep in on Saturday morning and then went to Weatherspoons with my mates for lunch, followed by shopping.
Better get back to my essay. (posted 5:55 PM) |

I have finally got my uniform, which I’m happy about, what I’m not happy about is that it’s not the nicest of colours. I ordered two tunics and trousers and two dresses. The tunics and the dresses are white with red stripes and a blue university badge on the left. The trousers are navy blue and come up much too high (I like hipsters). I have a bright red belt to wear with that. I will feel ok wearing it on the hospital ward. The colour was just a bit of a shock. The adult branch got grey stripes.
I have had a full day first aid course today. Very interesting and its always good to updates these skills. I last did a first aid course in February
The last 24hours have been really busy. Yesterday morning I had my second from last WHI lecturer on Oppression, discrimination and Inequality. After that I had to go to Coventry and Warwickshire hospital for a blood test (hurt). Some people say nurses make the worst patients, I agree.
During the afternoon I went shopping with my flatmate to help her find a nice dress for a ball. After going to loads of shops and trying on loads of clothes, she decided on a really pretty black, long, velvety dress. I saw some really nice dressed - very expensive.
I then popped to Sainsburys to pick up a few essentials. (Gingerbread men - YUM). When I got back to my flat I spent almost two hours, cooking my homemade - from scratch Scotch broth soup, it took me ages to cut all the vegetables, but it was worth it. After two bowls and some oatcakes I was soooo bloated.
At 9pm I got ready to go to the nightclub colliseum (sp?). Its not the most pretty of places but they do really cheap drinks 50p each on a Monday night and there is a dance floor - so I'm happy. I stayed until close at 2am and walked back with my flatmates. It was absolutely tucking it down all last night; lucky for us I brought my brolly. It was a really good night.
This morning after only 4hours max sleep I had to get up 7:30am and it was still dark. So here I am in my Life long learning IT lecture, finished my work. I'm off to the Gym later to burn off those gingerbread men, although I properly did that last night with all the dancing.
